Eastern Redbud leaves #870214
Asked May 26, 2024, 9:23 PM EDT
I'm waiting to hear from the nursery that recently planted my Eastern Redbud, but was wondering if you could help figure out what is wrong. It was planted in early April. The middle section didn't bloom. The nursery came and looked at it the removed the middle part. Now, what did leaf is shriveling.

Hello Jennifer,
I suspect this is transplant shock. I had a crape myrtle lose all of its leaves after I planted it. It took couple of months for the root system to establish to it's new environment.
You can do what is called the scrape test. find a small branch about the size of a pencil. very carefully scrape the bark about 1 inch wide perpendicular to the stem. you are looking for greenish color just under the bark. If it is green, continue to monitor. I should leaf out again.
