Spearmint growing next to my 4x4 raised tomato beds #870211

Asked May 26, 2024, 8:34 PM EDT

How do I safely get rid of the spearmint growing around the tomato beds? It makes its way into the beds every year. I also have an invasive heart shaped weed that flowers. Is it safe to put Roundup around those beds?

Expert Response

The best way to prevent mint of any kind growing where you don't want it is to get rid of it.  Plant in containers only.
Yes, you can safely use glyphosate around your garden beds.  Be sure to apply properly, read instructions on the container, do not spray directly on your wanted plants.  Glyphosate will break down in the soil without harming anything.
Be sure to NOT use the extended control product as it has other chemicals that can harm plants up to 3 feet away - intended for walkways and drives.

Thank you!
