How do I stop plum trees from spreading? #870209

Asked May 26, 2024, 8:09 PM EDT

We have two trees that produce small yellow plums at the front of the house. They are nice and don't seem to cause any issues. But there are plum trees in the backyard that will not stop trying to take over. Little trees come up everywhere, and they seem to have large roots. How so we cut them back in a way that prevents them from spreading?

Expert Response

This is a case of wrong plant in the yard. Removing the trees is the only good way and then cutting all the volunteer sprouts for as long as it takes. The trees can also be treated with a chemical which travels to the roots,  but it would be best to get a professional for the job.
