Beetle ID needed #870185

Asked May 26, 2024, 5:14 PM EDT

Hi there, I found this beetle in my Oregon grape, near my young Forest Green oak….and close to western red-cedar and Douglas-fir. I haven’t found it on some of the Oregon beetle pages and I’m wondering if it’s native or not. I have it in a container with holes, just in case. Thanks!

Hi Litzy and thanks for your great picture of the mystery beetle which DOES NOT appear to be the dreaded Asian Long-horned Beetle. It looks to be in the long-horned beetle family, Cerambycidae, but there are 225 species in our area and I too cannot find an exact match.

Since you have captured it, I would recommend sending a picture to be identified to Oregon State at the following site and then if they want to see the beetle they will tell you how to send it.

It looks like a big beautiful beetle whose larvae may or may not be harmful to trees.

I hope this gets you an ID,
