Is this fire blight #870151

Asked May 26, 2024, 1:10 PM EDT

Got two barefoot Asian pears from Costco this spring. Planted them and they seemed to be doing well. Went to control weeds around trees and noticed blackened growing tip of trees black and curled leaves and more (see pictures). Is this fire blight or some other disease?

Expert Response

No, I do not think this is fire blight. It looks more like transplant shock where some leaves have the marginal necrosis common with lack of water, etc... If it were fire blight it would be moving quickly and you would loose the entire tree. The third image shows some tattered holes in the leaves that are similar to hail injury. Just need some babying to get it through this first season.
