Identity plant in my garden formally farm lot. #870144

Asked May 26, 2024, 12:17 PM EDT

This plant has come up each year for the years since 2017. This is the tallest I’ve seen it grow. The land previously was farm land and now my patio garden. What is it and is it of any value? Does it have a bloom? Please send information. Thanks

Thank you for contacting Ask Extension.  I believe what you have is wild lettuce-Lactuca canadensis.  It self-seeds readily so that explains why you see it year after year.  It does have a small flower.  Please look over the fact sheets linked below.  Let us know if you have further questions.  Carol B.
