Asked May 25, 2024, 6:18 PM EDT

Hello, My Youri has scattered branches of brown and now I am seeing branches that are pale yellow with all the rain we have been having can my you tree be drying out? Can I be giving this tree fertilizer? Needs some tips on how to keep this little tree alive, and flourishing.

Expert Response

Yew trees are susceptible to winter burn.  Since it is quite spotty that would be my best guess. You can send a sample to the Plant Disease Clinic if it gets worse instead of better.  But I expect that you will see new normal growth.  You could wrap the tree in winter to protect from winter burn.  Fertilizer can help with new growth just don’t overdo it or you will get fertilizer burn.  The following website gives more details.
