Why are my Forest Pansy leaves so small this year? #870055

Asked May 25, 2024, 12:19 PM EDT

I planted this Forest Pansy in Fall of 2021. It’s been doing great. Last year around this time it had the gorgeous, glossy red leaves. This year, the leaves are a quarter of the size and discolored. I’m worried.

Expert Response

Thank you for your question, Stephanie.  Your Redbud tree appears to have contracted some disease, perhaps the one described here:  https://pnwhandbooks.org/plantdisease/host-disease/redbud-cercis-spp-verticillium-wilt

I suggest that you send tissue and soil samples to a the OSU Plant Clinic lab for diagnosis.  https://bpp.oregonstate.edu/how-submit-plant-materials

Good luck!
