I have mulch under my maple tree and the grass continues to mix with the mulch and is slowly encroaching into the mulch. Can I let the grass continue to grow to the point that it reaches the tree without damaging the tree.

Expert Response
Good Morning,
Yes, you can let the grass grow into the mulch. You might consider refreshing the mulch every few years. The mulch keeps the soil cool and moist around your tree. Keeping the grass and weeds down around your tree keeps it from having to compete with the other vegetation for nutrients.
