Substance in our flower bed #870031

Asked May 25, 2024, 8:36 AM EDT

Good day. These strange colorful things have appeared in our front flower bed in recent days. Any ideas of what they are? Thanks, Carl

Expert Response

These are called slime molds (commonly called dog vomit fungus). They are fairly common on wood mulches and they are not toxic or dangerous to humans, animals, or plants. The fungus "feeds" on bacteria in the mulch and they are just temporary. They'll evenually disappear, or you could scoop them up and them in the trash.
