Identify unknown something growing in dirt of potted plant #870029
Asked May 25, 2024, 8:22 AM EDT
I've had this plant for 3 months.
It appears healthy.
However, in the last few days these strange looking things have sprouted out of the dirt. (See pictures). I pulled them out.
Can you tell me what they are and what I should do about them.
Thank you!

Expert Response
These are a type of mushroom. It is not unusal to sometimes see mushrooms growing on potting media that contains wood material, especially when it is very moist. Mushrooms "feed" on dead and decaying organic matter; they're a normal part of the decomposition process. These will not harm your plants. You can simply pull them out and discard them when they appear.
