two trees sick? #870009
Asked May 24, 2024, 8:00 PM EDT
Hello. My two trees are :
1. Honeycrisp apple planted October 2023. The leaves at the very top of the tree dried out as if it has has a disease. the leaves are also curling. There are one or two leaves which have turned yellow. This tree bloomed nicely in April and has apples. Is it sick? If so, what can I do to fix this?
Thank you,

Expert Response
Hi Carol,
Thank you for reaching out about your honeycrisp apple trees! To better assist you further, could you please send us pictures of the entire trees and surrounding area, as well as a close-up of the base of the trees? Additionally, could you please answer the following questions?:
How are the trees being watered, and how often? Were the trees watered over the winter?
Is any fertilizer being used (and if yes, what fertilizer and how often)?
Have any herbicides or pesticides been used in the vicinity?
Have you noticed any signs of insects on the leaves (i.e., honeydew, webbing, chewing, etc.)?
Trees and shrubs are prone to drought issues in our cold and dry winter climates, and often need supplemental watering. Newly planted plants are the most susceptible, and as your plants were planted just this past October, it's possible they didn't get enough water over the winter. For more information about winter watering, please see our fact sheet on Fall and Winter Watering.
I am also including some notes on Growing Tree Fruit in Colorado Gardens, which might have some additional helpful information.
Thank you again for reaching out, and we looked forward to hearing from you soon!
Also, would you mind sharing your zip code? Collecting this information helps us to better serve the Arapahoe county community!
