Every Memorial Day, I like to decorate my family's graves with cut flowers, but it seems like I never have very many blooming in my garden. Do you have any suggestions for good cut flowers that might bloom around Memorial Day, which I could add to my flower garden?

Dear Josephine,
It really depends on the weather as to what blooms early. However, most of the time late blooming daffodils or tulips are in especially if the weather stays cool.
Iris, Peonies, and Cala lilies can be in bloom. Delphiniums and roses are usually in bloom too. California poppies, and some azaleas are also in bloom by end of May.
I am attaching a link listing flowers for spring blooming. One item is pussy willows. An arrangement of pussy willows is beautiful. They can be cut just before they start to open or when opening and left to dry out. They will not open much further and last for years. Many of the blooms listed for spring are tiny and do not do well when cut. Some of the ones I mentioned that last longer are delphiniums, Cala lilies and roses.
