These look just like my Japanese anemone do right now. It's hard to give a positive ID without flowers, so I'll give that caveat.
The website I linked gives more information. These bloom generally August-September in my garden. The plants spread readily and in some gardens are considered a thug. If you are removing extras, my advice is to dig deep.
