Burning bush wilting #869983
Asked May 24, 2024, 5:02 PM EDT
My burning bush is green, but wilting dramatically over the entire bush. It has not changed color or dropped any leaves. The adjacent ground cover, plants, and bushes all look healthy. This is an established yard with no new plants; no recent chemicals introduced; and good routine maintenance/upkeep.
Any suggestions on how to save this bush? It’s approx. 4ft x 4ft and I don’t see any signs of insects.
Thank you.

Hi Deb, thanks for the question.
Would it be possible to send some photos (the whole plant, specifically bad areas, leaf affected front and etc.). What is the variety? How long ago was it planted. Is this in a lower or higher area in your landscape? Is your soil, sandy, loamy, or clayey? How much sun does it get? Are you using mulch, landscaping cloth, etc. around the plant. Have you recently fertilized? Have you had much rain? Do you irrigate?
The bush is a dwarf variety burning bush, planted 20 years ago. It’s in sandy/loamy soil and is at the same level as the rest of the yard. It does not have landscaping fabric under/around it. There is a burning bush on each side of the “affected” one, approximately 6-8 feet away. They, and all the adjacent plantings appear healthy. They are not on an irrigation system, but get watered when necessary. We have had a lot of rain these past weeks. The area gets approximately 4 hours of sun.
Take a look at the base of the shrub, and the interior. Does this plant get more shade than the others? Is it possible it is getting more water than the rest? Are the other plants showing any signs of wilting? Is this one more exposed to wind or reflected heat/cold? I look forward to seeing the pictures.
