Expert Response
Trees do not need fertilizer. Depending on their location they can live 30 or 100 years, less in more urban areas or near highways.
We have had 3 years of drought and all of our trees are stressed right now. The best thing you can do for your trees is to make sure they are well watered. Water deep and less frequently rather than shallow and often.
While pre-emergent herbicides are safe to use around trees, do not use a broadleaf weed killer under them or a weed and feed fertilizer.
