Found this guy eating my Bal;dwin Apple Tree, also crawling across the street in droves. I mean dozens of 'em at once.

This is a spongy moth caterpillar, AKA gypsy moth caterpillar. They are now widespread in the Northeast. During outbreaks, they can damage thousands of acres of trees. If the tree is already damaged, it may die, but most will recover after defoliation. For more information, please contact NYSDEC at http://www.dec.ny.gov.
