With our mild/iffy winter in Cincinnati and this weird Spring, my October-planted garlic is looking almost ready to harvest. Are we having an early year for this?
Thanks,

Here in Athens I just cut scapes off my garlic.
Seems a little early by about 1-2 weeks.
All the best, Roxanne

Roxanne,
Just ate first scape pesto. Booming year for that.
Tomatoes almost ready to set fruit; blossoms abound.
On unrelated impact of weather, just back from fishing in Northern Ontario. Worst season in memory for early black flies, compounded by early mosquito hatch.
We literally tossed some fish back rather than stand and clean them while being eaten ourselves.
Of course, it’s not climate. That would be political.
But if this is just natural variation, I could do without.
Have a wonderful year and thanks for responding. Now, to find friends who’ll share zillions of scapes.

I am so worried about the bugs this year.We simply did not have a hard enough freeze to kill off a lot of things. The bane of my existence are Blister Beatles on my clematus. I hope they don't return in force. Enjoy your scapes.I love freezing mine and using them and soups throughout the year.
