Trying to grow raspberries #869892

Asked May 24, 2024, 9:33 AM EDT

I bought 10 bare root raspberry plants that said they were guaranteed to grow. I followed the planting instructions as accurately as I could and used new dirt in the holes I dug. I planted them about 6 weeks ago and have watered them regularly. None of them are showing any signs of life. What should I do to grow raspberries successfully?

Dear Shauna,
Most raspberries are leafed out or are leafing out now.  You can gently dig up one of the plants to see if there are any roots.  Or, dig up all of them.  Also check the cane to see if there is any growth, little buds, on the canes.
The canes should be somewhat flexible, bendable.  Is the cane dried out? If moisture is getting to the cane, there should be some flexibility in the cane.  Gently bend it.
Does their look like there has been any insect damage?  Do the canes show some open areas or cut areas?
If you have no roots and no buds, you may wish to contact the seller for replacements.
I am attaching a publication for your review on growing raspberries.

If you have further information on the cane or can send pictures, that would be helpful in giving you more information.
