Timeline for Planting Annual Flowers in Pots #869754

Asked May 23, 2024, 11:02 AM EDT

I have 5 flower boxes that I want to plant Diamond Snow plants in. The planter boxes are located on a wall approximately 8' away from our 2-story house. The boxes are on the east side of the house and receive sun on both the east and south side. There is also a large maple tree nearby that provides some shade. I've been feeding & watering the plants regularly and store them in the garage overnight, pulling the cart outside during the day as weather permits. In your opinion, when can I actually plant them in the planter boxes? I'm not looking to do it knowing that there's storms moving in, but would ideally like to plant sometime during the Memorial weekend if it's safe to do so. Thank you for any advice you can give me. The service that all of you have provided me with has always been 'spot on' and you're providing a great service to those of us who need your advice. Thank you!

Diamond Snow euphorbia like hot weather and can handle dryness, so they should be great in your location. It sounds like you are doing a good job of hardening them off. The forecast I pulled up (using Cambridge as a location) looks like you will be cold and rainy tomorrow, but then get warmer. I think it would be safe to plant over the weekend. If it gets down to the mid-40s, throwing a cover, like a sheet (nothing plastic as it conducts the cold) never hurts. But they are pretty tough plants.

This is the wall that I'm talking about.  As you can see, usually by late June, the plants fill in creating a solid hedge of privacy for anyone sitting on that patio.    I just LOVE these plants, they haven't disappointed me yet!

It is great that you found such a great plant for that spot. I hope you have lots of happy days on your patio.
