This looks like a common symptom to cherry species called Shot Hole Disease. Usually this is not a lethal issue as long as the tree is healthy otherwise. On the link it does mention treatment with a fungicide but this typically needs to happen before the symptoms begin.  Virginia Tech has a Home Fruit Spray Schedule you can reference for recommendations on different sprays and when. There are organic options which can be less harmful to insects and beneficials if not used in abundance.
