How to control Shepherd's Purse in newly seeded lawn #869739

Hi, must of got a bad batch of new grass seed variation. My lawn is now overtaken with Shepherd's Purse, to many to pull by hand. any suggestions how to control it. tia

was going to pull just the stems by hand or cut the weeds on the highest setting with a bag to catch seeds then apply a weed spray

Hi Richard,

Mow it, making sure you cut off all the flower heads to prevent it from going to seed. I don't think you need to use any weed killer. As your grass fills in it should smother the Shepards Purse. It only looks really bad in the spring. The key is to prevent it from going to seed.
