Weed plant id #869727

Asked May 23, 2024, 9:10 AM EDT

Hi, We have this plant popping up by the hundreds it seems. Our yard is basically a disturbed soil/ rock landscaping work in progress. I tried to plant a native wildflower garden, but it seems it’s mostly a ton of weeds coming up, especially this one. I think it might be prostrate amaranth, but looking for help id’ing it. So far the leaves are pretty small but sprawling pretty quickly about 2-3” in diameter. Is it best to pull it? Or is it somehow beneficial to insects and birds? Thanks!

Hi Zuzana:

It looks like a species of Clarkia, maybe Clarkia rhombodea, more commonly known as diamond clarkia and forest clarkia.  It is a wildflower found east of the Cascades.  I'm gong to send a link to additional information below:

Clarkia rhomboidea

Thank you for your question,
