Weed ID? #869720

Asked May 23, 2024, 8:23 AM EDT

Hello, I have recently planted a native plant garden and I'm not as familiar with leaf identification on these plants to know if they are weeds or desired plants. I've spent a fair amount of time online trying to ID this leaf without success. Could you help me ID this plant?

Thanks for your question.

This looks like Daisy Fleabane (Erigeron annuus). As the name suggests, this is an annual plant. If you have not previously seen this plant in your garden, its seeds were either carried in by the weed and/or from any new soil that you added to your garden in 2023. It is also seen when gardens have been recently turned over. Did you, perchance, do this in 2023? Alternatively, I would suspect that it was included in the native mix that you planted. I would suggest that you remove this plant from your garden ASAP before it goes to seed. Here is some more information about it:

Good luck. Thanks for consulting with us.

Thank you for ask your help after looking at more photos this is definitely what it is. I did completely turn over this area as it was all Buck thorn last year. I will remove all of it as I don’t need it to spread any more! Thanks again for all your help.
