Uknown plant in garden #869710

Asked May 23, 2024, 1:46 AM EDT

Hello! I have just moved houses and do not know what the kind of plant I have attached is. It is spreading and growing quickly in a way that makes me nervous that it is a weed, and it is especially spreading under my oak trees and I am nervous that it will hog all the nutrients and water from my trees. Thank you!!

Expert Response

This looks like Shasta Daisies which are nice garden plants. However, some cultivars can aggressively spread and outcompete other garden plants. It's hard to tell which cultivar it is from the picture. Shasta daisies spread mainly by seed, so if you cut off the flower stalks when the flowers fade, you will reduce the chances of it spreading.
