We have thistle in the lawn of the HOA I live in. I'd like to spot spray it and include marker dye. I think a herbicide with Glyphosate will work maybe Roundup or Rodeo? Is there a better option? Does County Extension provide help like loan me a sprayer or connect me with herbicide? Guidance? I think what I'd like to do is spray a small area by hand then wait and see how effective the treatment was. Then hand spray a larger area if the results are good. And spray again in the fall. Thoughts?

Hello,
Glyphosate is a non-selective herbicide, therefore it will kill the turf as well. I would not recommend using this in grass. Rodeo is for aquatic environments, therefore this herbicide would not be appropriate for your use. There are other non-selective herbicides you can use that won't kill the turf. However, you will need to be cautious of drift and non-target plants in the landscape. These herbicides in the publication I am putting below will move off-target, especially when it is windy or warm out. Be sure to read the label completely and follow all directions.

Unfortunately we do not have spray equipment at the extension offices. You are welcome however to contact your local office for more advice if you have additional questions that aren't covered by the article above.
