20 yr old Patmore ash did not leaf out. #869601

Asked May 22, 2024, 11:52 AM EDT

I have 3 ash trees @5724 Clover Basin Dr. Longmont, CO.   2 came out as expected, the oldest started to and stopped in the budding stage.  Is this tree dead and will it need to be removed, or is treatment possible?

Thank you,

Expert Response

Hi Chris,
Please bring in a sample to the extension office in the Boulder County Fairgrounds on Nelson Road in Longmont.  We would also like photos of both the healthy and damaged trees emailed to us directly at <personal data hidden>
Were there any signs last season of this tree's decline?  Our concern is the possible presence of Emerald Ash borer.  You should examine the trunk for "D"-shaped exit holes of the borer - usually at or above head height.
