Fungal and bacterial diseases cause black spots on poppy leaves. Overwatering and poor circulation contribute to the problem. Fungicides and bactericides treat spots; cultural practices prevent them. Cleaning up all plant debris and disposing of in the trash can help control the spread. It thrives in moist conditions. If it is around other plants makes sure there is space around each plant for air flow. Water at the base of the plant and if you have a sprinkler system turn it off in the are the poppy is planted. If symptoms persist you may have to destroy the plant.
