I would like to start a backyard garden #869575

Asked May 22, 2024, 9:03 AM EDT

So, I’ve never gardened before, but this year some robins started nesting on my front porch and it’s inspired me to want to create a backyard garden suitable for birds / bees / butterflies to visit, but I have no idea where to start! I have a pine tree back there if that’s relevant information, but I’m curious about what kinds of flowers are suitable for a new person, when to plant, and where. I’ll include a picture that’s somewhat color coded for how much sun each area gets. I also have dogs so anything back there would have to be dog safe

There are several excellent resources available to you from Ohio State University.  I encourage you to look at them.  The project you are undertaking may take several years to provide you with the results.  Don't get discouraged.  Starting with a soil test to find out if your soil is lacking any nutrients is the first step  The local Extension Office for your county can provide you with this.
