Leaf Spot or Other Fungal Disease Is Killing Everything #869563

Asked May 22, 2024, 6:48 AM EDT

Hi. I have a small 1/10th acre flower farm on my property and I started to see some plants with spots on their leaves last week and didn't get rid of them fast enough and now it's spread through nearly my entire crop. I was spraying with MilStop and I have CEASE biofungacide, but I'm a little afraid to use it because of all the warnings. I'm nervous I'm going to lose everything and would like some advice on how/whether I can control it at this point. I looked at my neighbor's yard - they don't take care of their yard and they have an entire patch of thistle that is completely dead from the same thing. If they don't take care of their yard is it going to keep affecting mine?

Expert Response

Good afternoon and thank you for your question.  That looks more like insect feeding damage to me rather than a fungal pathogen.  To be sure, and because you are seeing significant damage to a large area of flowers, I would encourage you to submit a fresh sample to the plant and pest diagnostic clinic where they are better equipped to give you an accurate diagnosis.  Here is information on how to submit a sample:  https://ppdc.osu.edu/submit-sample

I wish you all the best.

Hi Jennifer.

Thanks for your response. I was actually told about Dr. Francesca Hand's program for diagnostics in the plant pathology department. I brought samples over this afternoon.

Thanks again,
Tara
