Bullfrog disposal #869511

Asked May 21, 2024, 6:01 PM EDT

I have collected 8 large American bullfrogs. I understand that they are invasive. Would your program use them for research or have a way of disposing of them properly?

Expert Response

Thank you for removing those (invasive) bullfrogs from the wild. Thank you, but no, we would not be able to use them. They need to be humanely dispatched. ODFW https://www.dfw.state.or.us/conservationstrategy/invasive_species/docs/bullfrog_fact_sheet.pdf recommends stunning them, followed by decapitation. You could reach out to ODFW's Invasive species division https://www.dfw.state.or.us/conservationstrategy/invasive_species.asp at either #: Main Phone<personal data hidden> or (800) 720-ODFW [6339] if you would like further technical advice on disposal of these animals. If you caught these adults in a private pond, you might also ask ODFW's advice on location and removal of eggs and juveniles in order to prevent their further development.
