autumn purple ash tree blooms #869450

Asked May 21, 2024, 12:53 PM EDT

We have an autumn purple ash tree that produced blossoms late last summer, about the size of a walnut. Now they are brown and haave not dropped. Is there any danger in cutting them off? We don't think they are particularly attractive.

Hello Millie,

Sounds like your tree might have flower galls.   These galls are usually cosmetic and do not harm your tree. You can remove them.  Please refer to this ask extension question which discusses the flower gall and includes photos: https://ask2.extension.org/kb/faq.php?id=802743
