Blue Lyme Grass on beach #869344

We seem to have Blue Lyme Grass starting to grow/invade our common beach on the east side of East Bay (Grand Traverse Bay). Everything I read says to treat it with herbicide to eradicate it because pulling it leaves rhizomes and and/or root fragments. We don’t want to use chemicals on the beach and next to the Bay. Suggestions?

You've done your homework because Blue Lyme Grass is becoming a problem around Lake Michigan shorelines as the water level has dropped.  Physical removal is not recommended as rhizome remnants will remain to restart the invasive grass.  Chemical control with  non-selective herbicide in early spring before native species start to grow is suggested which could be a problem near bodies of water.
