Hi Michael,
I confess I'm not the greatest resource when it comes to turf (not a fan). I am preaching to people to reduce the size of their lawns and instead plant borders of shrubs, perennials and trees. However, back to your question, here is a link to look at;

I would really need to examine your lawn closer to know what the issue is. I can tell you it doesn't look like beetle grub damage.

I would get a rake in there and get some of the dead grass out to allow for more air circulation.
