What brood cicadas are thinking right now? #869292

Hello, I live in west Franklin county and we’ve discovered some cicadas humming the last few days. Are these stragglers from previous broods or part of another brood that somehow made its way to central Ohio?

Good morning and thank you for your question.  What you are seeing are our annual cicadas that come out every year.  We will not have another emergence of periodical cicadas until 2025, but only in southern Ohio.  Here is there brood map for your reference:  https://www.fs.usda.gov/foresthealth/docs/CicadaBroodStaticMap.pdf
