Food & shelter for wild rabbits #869237

Asked May 20, 2024, 11:36 AM EDT

We have a family of rabbits living in our backyard beneath a storage shed. I'd like to provide them with as much shelter and food as possible without feeding them directly so they remain wild. What can I plant in my yard that will give them more shelter and/or provide them with food?

Good morning!

Thank you for reaching out! Rabbits will eat almost everything you plant. The main things they will avoid are plants that have a scent to them or have a fuzzy leaf (like lambs ear).

Some of their favorites are vegetables (leafy greens especially!) if you have a shady area hostas are some of their favorites as well.

Sounds like they have a great shelter already! I would just suggest keeping any pets away from that area so they do not scare them away.

Hopefully this helps!
