Started growing in Flower garden area this year? #869215
Asked May 20, 2024, 10:37 AM EDT
I had seen one of these earlier and didn’t think much of it? Then yesterday when in an area that we have a few plants we saw MANY of these. Mostly along our border in rows but there are also some scattered throughout.
Could you please identify and tell me if this is something we need to attend to/treat?
My grandchildren play in this flower area and I just don’t know what this is
Thank you

Thanks for your question.
What a weird growth! I believe it is called Dead Man's Fingers, which grows on or near dead or dying wood. I think the stubby growths that look like toes are attached to some wood, right? I've included the following site which has pictures and the Latin name.

It seems that when the growth is young, small amounts would not be toxic, but there are strong poisonous toxins in it, so I'd absolutely remove it if there are children around.
I hope this helps! Sincerely,

This bed was put where we had a maple tree cut down probably 5? Years ago.
Thank you. I will read the info. Appreciate your quick response.
