Moss growing in crusher fine paths #869191
Asked May 20, 2024, 8:33 AM EDT
We have moss growing over our crusher fine walking paths. We removed it last year, and refreshed the crusher fine, but it came right back (even worse!) this year. The ground under our benches is also lumpy. What is causing this and how can we get rid of it for good? Thank you!

Hello Julie,
From the photos you sent it looks like the moss is growing in areas that remain damp longer than the rest of the walkway, is this accurate? If so, moss grows in moist or damp areas, so that could be part of the problem. This could be related to a drainage issue or your irrigation system. It's hard to tell in the photos. If this is the cause, it could also explain the lumpy ground beneath your benches. It looks like mud that has dried into lumps, but again it is hard to tell in the photos. If you could send some pictures that show the ground more clearly, and let us know if the moss grows in a slowly draining area of the walkway, we may be able to answer with more confidence.
If the drainage is the issue, you could try building up the walkway so it slopes away from the grass to prevent the pooling that is allowing the moss to grow. Without the moisture, the moss may stop growing. Without knowing more about the water drainage or the irrigation, that would be the recommendation.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.
Thank you,
