Plant fungus or bug infestation #869189

Asked May 20, 2024, 7:35 AM EDT

Certain flowering plants have brown spots that are destroying the leaves. What is this and how do I treat it? It’s on cone flowers, mint, mums, the plant in the picture and on other things. Input is appreciated

Expert Response

Good news! This is minor and there is nothing that you need to do.
These spots on the leaves are caused by the four-lined plant bug, and we see this early season damage each year at this time.
They only have one generation a year, and the plants are able to flush fresh new growth without problem.
You can pinch off the worst affected leaves if you like.
