Camellia, japanese leaf problems #869147

Asked May 19, 2024, 6:04 PM EDT

Hi, My beautiful 2-year old camellia is suddenly sick. The leaves have large black and brown sections, and the new leaves are mustard green. Can you identify the problem and is there a cure? It's in a raised bed and it's been perfectly happy. A week ago I noticed the problem and took the attached photos. Thank you, Geralyn

Expert Response

Thank you for your question, Geralyn.  It would appear that your plant has the following fungal infection:  https://pnwhandbooks.org/plantdisease/host-disease/camellia-ramorum-leaf-blight-shoot-dieback

If this is the cause, it was probably infected at the nursery.  I suggest that you go to the nursery or garden center from which you acquired the plant, so that appropriate measures can be taken to prevent further spread of this disease.  Good luck!
