I just bought a gallon size container of Lucerne blue-eyed grass.
Can i split this gallon before planting? Or should I plant the whole gallon?

To answer your question directly, yes, you should be able to carefully break apart your gallon container into clumps containing blue-eyed grass plants. They prefer growing in part shade to full sun in moist, poor soils. In fertile soil the plants will fall and perform less well.
