This is likely a variety of Smoke tree/bush. It is hard to tell from the pictures if you have the tree or shrub variety. The following websites give additional information on identification and pruning shrubs/trees. If it’s the tree after it flowers it can be pruned up to 1/3 or if it’s a shrub it is best pruned to the ground before growth starts in the spring.
