Damp and dark ground cover #869071

Hello, I am looking for a ground cover(preferably one that spreads) for a dark and damp area of our backyard. We live next to a wetland area and there are huge cottonwoods that block out most of the sun in the corner of the yard where we are putting in a paver walkway. We’d like a ground cover to plant to grow between the pavers. We’ve found some ground covers that work in shade but they all state to wait for things to dry before watering them. I would take this to mean they wouldn’t do well in consistently damp soil. Thank you!

My first thought is moss. There are a lot of really beautiful mosses out there that are stunning. I it between my pavers and around a fountain. The area is recessed and often damp.
Lamium and ajuga spread quickly in my damp, shady areas and are short enough (you may need to weed whack the lamium a little). But mosses would be perfect and they self-seed to spread politely.
Be aware that the cottonwoods send out runners and surface roots. If they are mature, you should already know what you are up against.
