Is it safe to plant after having had Japanese Beetle grubs destroy parts of our lawn? #869046

Hi.
We found your page on the Japanese Beetle, and it matched what we're seeing in our backyard. Big parts of our lawn are dead, and I have video footage of racoons digging in the same areas, probably to go for the grubs.
A few months ago, we had ordered some plants (tomatoes, peppers, etc.) that arrived last week. We had wanted to plant them this week, but with those bugs around, we wanted to check with you if it was safe to do that. The new plants are at least a few inches tall, one tomato plant is close to two feet, so we need to get them in the ground fast OR prepare an indoor place for them.
We have not seen any bug or racoon activity in at least a week, and the area where we would like to plant does not show any sign of bug activity. I am imagining that either the racoons got them all OR that the bugs got their wings and flew off. We have two birch trees in the front yard but I have not checked them for damage yet.
How can we know if it is at least reasonably safe to plant?
Can you give us any advice?
Thanks so much!
