Peonies blossoms turning brown before opening fully #868961
Asked May 17, 2024, 8:51 PM EDT
Hi. Three years ago we moved to a new location in Bloomington and brought two peonies with us. Last year they grew nicely in the spring, but the blossoms wilted even before they fully opened. The plants have produced numerous buds this spring already, and I am hoping to learn more about how to make the blossoms more successful this year.
Thank you.

There are multiple causes for peony “bud blast.” The most likely for your plants is transplant stress. Read about other causes at the following website:

Hi Mary
Thank you.
You are welcome Craig! Hopefully they will be fine this year.
We got these plants from some dear friends who moved to California to be near their son and his family. Every year when they come up I send photos to them. We’ve lost the husband in the meantime so I keep in touch with the wife. Sweet people.
Plants are memory makers as are the people who love them! Thanks for sharing.
