Replacing a dead flowering crabapple tree #868938

Not sure what killed my 2 year old ornamental flowering crab. Want to plant new crab in the same location as one I just removed. Is it wise to do so? Or is soil there contaminated with apple scab or whatever it was that killed my young tree. The location is where we had to take down a large old elm with Dutch Elm disease a few years ago. Could that have caused something in the soil to kill the young crab?

Hi,
Do you happen to know the variety of crabapple you planted ? What were the symptoms of the dying tree ? Did it look diseased/spots on the leaves ?

I think you should be okay to plant another in the same spot. You may consider an Easter Redbud ? Also very beautiful in the spring.
