Cobblestone Tiger Beetle #868902

Asked May 17, 2024, 2:06 PM EDT

This came from a Crow Wing County resident: If this is the cobblestone tiger beetle, I don't think I understand the good of that I don't understand all the science words. Anyways pretty cool, Crow wing Facebook told me to send the photos here. I found this guy between brainerd and merrifield. It doesn't match the environment the Internet stays it lives in but maybe it's adapting. I found it outside my house on the rocks, we live next to the woods and there's a lake maybe 100 yards nearby.

Expert Response

This does look like the Cobblestone tiger beetle, an unusual insect for Minnesota.  Here is information from Canada on this beetle: https://www.registrelep-sararegistry.gc.ca/virtual_sara/files/plans/rs_cobblestone_tiger_beetle_e_proposed.pdf

Thanks for sending in the photos.
