Vacation plant needs #868871

Asked May 17, 2024, 12:06 PM EDT

Is it better for me to leave my house plants inside with a watering bulb then putting it outside for the elements? I am specifically speaking about a large Shefflera and asparagus ferns and spider plants. I have lots of shade to part shade.

Expert Response

When are you going and how long do you plan to be away?

If you water well before you leave and are only gone about a week to 10 days you should be fine, maybe 2 weeks with the bulbs.

Putting them outdoors could be more problematic as ideally you'd want to acclimate them slowly to the change in light/temps, and it's iffy to know what kind of weather or precipitation we might get while you're gone. Though unusual, there is still a tiny chance of cold temps too, at least in central Maryland- maybe not in Queen Anne's county.
In my experience, spider plants are pretty tough and very forgiving. Of the three plants you mention, asparagus ferns have the highest water needs.

Enjoy your vacation.
