Landscape Assistance/Storm Water Treatment #868867

Asked May 17, 2024, 11:57 AM EDT

Hi~ Could I please have a referral and/or contact information for an intern/student to give me advice on plants & placement? Also, I have a lot of water that accumulates at various times throughout the year, making the grass soggy. Specifically in my back yard. Thank you so much for your help!

Expert Response

Hello Kathy,
We do not have any students who consult. If you provide some details about soil type( clay?, sandy?), sun exposure( full sun, part shade?), type of plants wanted( trees, shrubs, flowers, vegetables?).; and attach a couple pictures of the area in question, we can give you some suggestions and design resources here.
Here is how to attach pictures-

To add pictures, click the link in your email and go into your question on the website.

Click the “Drop files here or choose them” below the response box to attach them.

You can upload .jpg, .png, .gif, .txt, or .pdf.

NOTE- each picture must be 8mb or less.

We can also suggest some landscaping resources for hire, as well. MSU Extension does not endorse any retailers or brands, so we don’t have specific lists of landscapers. Here are examples of how to search for services-

Michigan Green Industry Assoc. under the ‘Homeowners-find a landscaper’ button—

https://www.landscape.org

The MNLA website, under the ‘Find a professional’ tab—

http://plantmichigangreen.com/aws/MNLA/pt/sp/home_page ;

Check local publications for garden services, such as newspapers and magazines like The Michigan Gardener, available at libraries, and sometimes online.

Check with your local garden clubs, who may have recommendations-

Your question about drainage is a different area of expertise. Would you please submit a new, separate question for the drainage question? That way we can direct it to the correct expert.

Hello Laura!

Many thanks to you for the thorough resources. What a valuable tool to have when looking for gardening needs. I will go with your suggestion and submit a separate inquiry regarding my drainage issues.

Have a great summer!
Kathy
