Raising a Bed #868859

Asked May 17, 2024, 11:21 AM EDT

Hello! I have a little bed off of our deck and I would like to just fill it up with all different kinds of mint! The problem I am running into is that the soil is quite shallow and there is chicken wire or something not that far deep into the soil. I currently have some mint growing in there and it has spread through the garden bed a bit. I am wondering if I can just put a bunch of soil on top of the current mint and it will grow through the dirt or if I should dig them all out as best as possible.

Expert Response

Hello Rebeka, happy to help.

Mint is a pretty persistent grower and I doubt you'd do it any harm by throwing soil over it. I'd pull up as much of the tips of the plants that you can after you've added the soil and they'll be happy to grow on.

Good-luck!
